Let's Sketch in - Issue #32
Weekly warmup update and process of our sketchnote.
👋 Hey, I’m Kumar and welcome to my weekly newsletter. Each week I share Sketchnote(s) on product, leadership, personal growth, and anything that helps you get started on Sketchnoting.
🪅Welcome
Hello and warm welcome to the new friends of this newsletter. If you are here the first time, take some time look at my past issues.
If you liked the content and think some of your network will like it too, help me spread the word.
🥁Weekly warmup
Last weekend some of the sketchnoters met after a long break of almost a month. During this weekly warmup we talked about the tools - pen, sketchbook, markers and what kept us busy.
Most of us were hooked up in one or the other problems of life. But getting together and discuss about Sketchnotes brought in relief.
We then sketchnoted a twitter thread on Ways to prime your creativity.
The thread talks about practical tips on how to become creative.
Here are different SNs that the participants came up with.
🗝️Process of how we came up with this sketchnote
The approach taken for coming with this sketchnote is as below
There are 7 tweets in the thread. Add 1 more for the title and that makes 8 unique piece of information. With this I can divide my page into a grid of 8 cells. Either create a grid using pencil (erase later) or create an actual one with pen (See Madhavs’ sketchnote).
Well it’s not necessary to make a grid after all. Choose your own format. Check Samirs’ and Jatins’ sketchnote above.
With grid or no grid in place the first thing will be to put a BIG BOLD title.
The next step was to read through the tweet and summarize it’s essence in a sub-title. So in this case you can see title like Consume, Hangout, etc. Title is written using bold/wide width pen/marker
Next step was to provide keywords to support the title. These keywords are already present in the tweet. Rule of thumb will be to pick nouns and verbs only. Shred all those adjectives.
In doing all these keep enough space around the subtitle. This is to put illustration/sketch that’s a metaphor for the subtitle
The last step is to color up your Sketchnote. Try to use max of 2 colors to make it clear and legible.
How about creating a sketchnote of this process and sharing with us? 😄
That’s all I have for today.
Have a wonderful week ahead Sketchnoting.
