Sketchnote of the week - Layouts
For this weeks sketchnote I selected the one which shows different layout types that can be used and the principles.
Using the layout that suits the context of topic makes the Sketchnote standout. Visual reference becomes astounding.
My Sketchnoting System
Having a system that allows you to sketchnote everyday consistently for longer duration is what will help you reach your goal to learn to Sketchnote.
Here’s a system that I follow. Important elements of the system are
Time, Cue, Habit stack - The first thing to set for starting a new habit is to set a fixed time to do it. It can be difficult to do it consistently everyday when starting new. So to make it simple you can attach the new habit to an already set habit i.e. brushing teeth, bath, exercise. Do it before or after. I attached my sketchnoting habit to my morning routine just after bath in morning and evening after tea.
Duration - To start a new habit it’s always good to give it least possible duration. I started sketching only for a minute. And now I do it for 30 mins. Using Pomodoro technique.
Tools - Choose very simple tools initially. I used a simple A5 plain book and a ball point pen. And now I have a limited set of tools 3 pens and a sketchbook.
Content Sources - If you are going to Sketchnote everyday, your content sources should be fixed and scheduled ahead to take off any time that may go in decision making. I create a Sketchnote backlog at the start of the week from different sources.
Reach - What you create is value addition to already existing information cloud. Why to keep it to yourself? As a system share it with the world. What it does is takes away your fear of initial scrappy work. Progress over perfection is the key. I share on twitter, instagram, website, whatsapp, youtube, etc. The more you share the better you get. It’s scientifically proven.
Overall process - Having the entire system put as an overall process helps you improve over time. Have your own process. And to start easy you can follow the one that I follow.
Have questions around getting started? Leave a comment and I will be happy to HELP.
Sketchnote template to journal
As I talked about system above, here’s what will get you started.
Here’s a template for you to use for your daily journal. To form a habit motivation is very important. And what else can be more motivational than your own thoughts.
Either download→Print this template and use it to fill in details everyday
OR
Sketch it everyday yourself and fill in the details. For first few days it may feel tedious but I bet the results over 30 days will just change your perspective to yourself, life, and success.
Did you find this helpful? Take a moment to share this in your network.
Reach out to me and I can help you create a customised version of this template for you.
Atomic Sketches
Last week 7 of the participants created 56 Atomic Sketches, consistently everyday.
Kudos to all of them. As an update to the Atomic Sketches site, am going to publish them going forward.
I won’t spam you for anything other than Sketchnotes :-)
This project is being built in public.
That’s all I have for today.
Have a wonderful week ahead Sketchnoting.
